Digital Audio Tape: One of the many digital formats that tried to replace analogue consumer audio. DAT offered better sound quality than compact disc, "random access" to linear tracks that wasn't even comparable to that of CDs, and a compact design. However, the medium only caught on in smaller recording studios as a mixdown medium and never saw any usage outside of the professional world.
