Community Farming project Hinjewadi, Pune 2016
What is community farming?
A community farm is managed as a whole, so everyone can participate to help make healthy food choices and provide opportunities for connecting with the natural world. We would be fostering a sustainable food system through our urban farm that engages the community by providing access to organic and local food, creates youth leadership opportunities, and develops creative solutions to environmental and social justice issues.
So calling all budding farmers!

Motive: This project is to include ourselves in the idea of natural farming of vegetables, fruits, grains and more. Give yourselves corporeal understanding of various elements of farming.
How does it work?
The vision is through regular sessions at one can partake in the process from seed sowing to harvest, and enjoy the fruits of one's labor. Hands - on experience and to gain skills on what it means to be a farmer in our city.
We participate in the entire process of crop selection to harvesting.
1. Crop Selection
2. Land Preparation
3. Seed Selection
4. Seed Sowing
5. Irrigation
6. Crop Growth
7. Fertilizing
8. Harvesting
We share the cost of the farm between the individuals/families.
There may not be monetary returns, but we can share seeds, earth, manure and harvests fresh from the farm!
How does it help?
We would connect to the soil and to the seasons. Develop a relationship with the farm and learn more about how food is grown. Create an environment where everyone learns from everyone. Eat ultra-fresh food, with all the flavor and vitamin benefits more like from farm to table. We would know where the food we eat is coming from and value it more as we have taken efforts to grow it.
Natural Farming methodology: Natural Farming is a sustainable farming. It takes all inputs from natural materials and observes the law of the Nature.
Natural Farming heals the soil slashed by chemicals, herbicide and machines. We prevent disease rather than curing with medicines.
Crops cultivated by Natural Farming are very healthy. They have almost no disease and shown especially strong resistance to climatic fluctuation.
