Australian Short Story - (Mary) Valleys Senior Football League Team 1935

Before the 1939-45 war, four football teams participated in the Gympie competition. One of them is Valleys, a team named for the boat from Mary Valley.

My brother Kev played with Bert and as the captain of the Valleys, Kev is the captain of the Gympie team. In the 1930s, the road did not collapse, there was no asphalt on the road in the valley, and it reached the venue, where the game played a lot of chore.

Traffic on the road stirred up dust clouds. It is almost impossible to pass the vehicle in front because it is difficult to see the dust. If you chase it too close, you will be suffocated by these things.

One of the players, Frank Jocumsen, had a creamy movement between Imbil and Gympie and picked up the cream from the farmers. Cream is delivered to the Gympie Butter factory on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. His trucks are time-consuming, with a capacity of about 7 tons and a canvas cover on the back to keep the cream cool. This is also a good way to ship the team to the venue on Sunday.

There is a hurdle, the back of the truck is full of cream, and by the end of the week, I can imagine that it is really stinky. My role model, Kev, told me to clean the back of the truck, and every Saturday of the football season, Frank will bring it to the back of our house for cleaning. When I inherited this job, I was only seven or eight years old, and I can tell you that this is not a good thing.

There were no hoses at the time, only a lot of buckets, a distance from the tank, soap and broom, and some hard work. Cleaning Kev's football shoes is also my job. If you can't see their faces, they won't be considered clean.

All valley towns support their team and expect them to win every game. People's interest and efforts are so great that Jack Lutton, who owns the Imbil sawmill, is said to have declined production on Monday and Friday.

On Friday, because of his staff, there are several people on the team; most of the time they are talking about how they will play Sunday games, and after Sunday's game they are too painful to work on Monday.
