That's right, I'm talking about getting into that situation, you didn't refuse [when you should, but you're just friendly or trying to keep peace] to a member, and now they're running around you. In the early days of becoming a model/administrator/owner, you will learn a less-than-good life course. There will always be a member who asks for an inch and needs a mile, and then you will have to offer one mile to all other players/members because they are worried about looking like a partiality. This is the mistake I have made many times over the years.
The hard part is to be firm but don't alienate yourself from other players. The best way to do this is to be firm, to be fair from the start, and not to be a soft apple. Don't because you need to be this cold mother... you understand what I mean. Just realize that you need to wear your administrator/owner/host and deal with people in this way. Not the way you want to deal with friends.
All members/mods and administrators know that when it comes to community issues, I am talking about being the owner. No your friends, even your personal friends.
Let's say a member of our Minecraft server asks if I can set the distortion. [Be able to set up a remote port for you on non-Minecrafter's] On our Minecraft server, we don't allow normal non-donor members to have this capability. I will tell them no, I say no, and any other information that would help the member at the time.
It will go on like this.
Member: Do I have a warp?
Me: No, sorry, we don't allow [members] ranked players to be able to set distortions. This is because we don't want to have 100 warp threads on the server and want people to actually move and view the entire map. However, the [VIP] level has the ability to set 1 public warp, get [VIP] you can donate or donate some time to the basic work we need help.
Never just say "no" there is always reason to support it. This will make the player understand that you are not just mean. This is why you say "no" for this reason and you are not different from any other member/player.
Learn from the veteran, don't say yes in it, you mean no.
