What is VOIP?
Today, VoIP or Internet Protocol voice is becoming more and more popular. People use VoIP for international calls because the cost is much lower than conventional landline or mobile costs, and sometimes even completely free. VoIP works by transmitting analog signals such as voice, fax, text messages, and voice messages to digital signals that can be sent over the Internet rather than over a public switched telephone network. There are three different types of VoIP calls;
1. Analog Phone Adapter: Also known as ATA or VoIP Adapter. This is a simple device that allows you to connect a regular phone to your computer or the Internet for VoIP calls. You can make most calls using your regular phone and service provider, then switch to VoIP when you make an international call. The adapter converts the analog signal to a digital signal.
2. IP Phones: These phones look like regular phones, but they can connect to your internet connection without the need to switch signal converters. IP phones have both cordless and lined lines and can be plugged directly into your internet router. Many types of IP phones offer additional services, such as keeping calls, moving to other extensions and multiple phone lines, making them ideal for businesses.
3. PC to PC: This is the simplest type of VoIP communication. You only need software, internet connection and headphones on your computer. No adapter or phone required! There are many companies that offer PC to PC software, and many companies offer additional services such as keeping calls, transferring to another extension, and using multiple phone lines. You will need to pay for the software on a monthly basis, but usually make free calls. You can also install such software on your phone, which is called a softphone or a mobile dialer. With a softphone, you can make VoIP calls from your mobile phone. There is an added bonus to making a call using a softphone - the phone is portable and can be used anytime, anywhere. How does VOIP work?

Circuit switching:
When you make a call using a regular phone, it is connected to the circuit switch. This is what we call the public switched telephone network, also known as the PSTN.
The system works by establishing a channel or circuit between the caller and the receiver during the call.
In the early days, dedicated copper wires had to be connected to both ends to make a call. This is the help of the operator service, they make sure the wires are connected. This type of connection is very expensive because you actually own the line during the call, so if you call from India to the UK, you have a wire from India to the UK.
Calling now is more efficient because the call is digital and automatic electronic switching has replaced manual switching. Now using fiber optic cables instead of copper, and using fiber optic cables, thousands of voice signals can share the same cable. This means that you no longer own the line when you call, but you can share it with many others.
The way the circuit works has remained the same for many years. A connection must be established during the call. A large part of this data is lost because because there is no simultaneous speech signal at both ends, one party usually listens to the other party and is silent in some respects.

Packet switching:
When you make a VoIP call, it uses packet switching. As in the case of circuit switching, instead of keeping the connection open during a call, the connection is only opened when something is going to be sent.
Let's look at an example:
When you use circuit switching to make a five-minute call, you will send all five minutes of full data from both ends because the connection is always open. When you use a packet switch to make a call, you may call for five minutes, but only when there is content to send. You may only send two minutes of data, freeing up a lot of space for others to use.
When you send content over the Internet, such as emails, voice messages, images, and when making VoIP calls, the following happens.
• The file you sent is broken down into "packets", so if you make a call, your voice signal will be split into packets '. These packets can now be sent over the internet

How does data are sent from one IP address to another?
Codec:

Level 5 softswitches can serve VoIP phones and non-VoIP phones, such as the calling card service used on regular phones.
Category 5 softswitches are primarily used for local calls by end users. If the customer wants to make long distance calls, the Level 5 softswitch typically sends the request to the Level 4 softswitch.
Softswitch basically allows two endpoints to connect via the Internet. Class 5 softswitches are primarily used for connecting circuits and packet networks, in other words, when making calls between regular and VoIP phones.
When someone dials a phone number from a VoIP phone, the softswitch translates the phone number to an IP address because VoIP only works with IP addresses instead of phone numbers. A soft switch can easily find the IP address of a number, and if not, it will send the request to another softswitch until it has an answer.
