$10,000 luxury pool - part 1

This article on swimming pool construction is based on the method of building about 40 swimming pools during the five years of southwestern France. It is worth seeing the history of swimming pool construction as it does affect the thinking of many swimming pool building professionals, even today.

I only care about the better quality pool types in this article. In my opinion, there are many products in the world swimming pool market that are completely wasting money. Yes, this does include a pool with a fiberglass structure and a pool of panels with metal parts - virtually anything that would deteriorate when buried under the water. This is the basic principle of all professional civil engineers. The early swimming pools were all tiled - there are still many swimming pools today. In the author's opinion, the completion of the tile pool is not the best choice, because the PVC lining is superior to the tile in many respects;

- Tile pools are very expensive - probably several times the cost of a PVC liner pool
from

  - Tile pools often leak, leaks are difficult to track
from

  - PVC gasket pools rarely leak, and when they leak, electronic equipment using gasket insulation is prone to leakage
from

  - Leaked tiled pools are very expensive because tiling usually requires removal and replacement
from

  - Tile pools are susceptible to incorrect chemical balance in pool water
from

  - Calcium deposits make it harder to remove tiles, cleaning can wear the tile surface, leading to premature aging
from

  - Tiled pool takes longer to build
from

  - Tiled pools require heavier, higher cost structures

This is a very important last point and is not appreciated by many people - including many pool installation professionals. The pool to be laid needs to be a very hard concrete box buried underground. If it is not rigid, the underlying tiles and waterproofing membrane will bend and the crack will then leak.

The advantage of the floor box is that the box supports the heavy reinforced concrete slabs that form the bottom of the box. The thickness of the bottom plate of the pool provides the necessary rigidity and it also serves as the basis for the rigid connection of the walls of the floor to the floor.

In other words, the board must be there to provide the rigidity needed to ensure that the tile and waterproof membrane do not leak. In a PVC liner pool, this rigidity is not required because the liner will provide waterproofing and small differential movement between the wall and the bottom of the pool will not cause leakage or any other deleterious effects.

So how does this all contribute to the goal of building a luxury swimming pool for $10,000? It helps because it explains the theory behind the architectural concept I described in the second article on how to build a DIY luxury pool on this topic for $10,000 - Part 2.
